There is currently no plan to expand the public transportation operation on weekday nights. Midttrafik is even discussing the opposite – to interrupt the service even earlier.
Aarhus citizens spending a weekday night out will have to continue looking away from public transport and into alternative means of transportation to get home from the city. Midttrafik is not expanding their night bus service.
Henrik Juul Vestergaard is head of planning on Midttrafik, and explains why.
“The passenger counts are conclusive here. On the last departure on a weekday, the number of passengers can be as low as ten to fifteen. On the weekends, that same departure can have ninety passengers.”
According to Juul Vestergaard, there are even plans for reducing the weekday night service. Interrupting the light rail service earlier is a topic of discussion in Midttrafik’s headquarters.
“This is also due to an insufficient number of passengers. We could use that time for maintenance of the infrastructure instead,” he says.
