So, what is SU?
SU stands for State Educational Grant, which is a supplementary income for students to help with their living costs.
Who can apply?
To be eligible for SU you must:
- Be an EU citizen
- Over 18 years old
- Be a full-time degree student studying in Denmark
- Have a CPR number and a Danish address
- Work at least 10-12 hours per week
How much is SU?
As of 2023, if you are 20 years or older you can receive DKK 6,589 per month before tax.
Sigrun Schaumburg-Müller, International Coordinator at Studenterhus Aarhus, said, “There is not a lot of information about it. The whole SU system is a little bit bureaucratic and even for Danes it can seem a bit dense to find your way through.
“My advice is if you are ever in doubt, call the SU office. They will help and that’s what they are there for”, added Schaumburg-Müller.
