According to Aarhus University, 12% of their students are international. Some students have turned to volunteer work to find a community outside their school life.

“There’s something special about volunteering and the sorts of people that get involved with it,” said Cathleen Collins, an international student from Australia studying at Aarhus University.

Collins started volunteering at a young age and got involved with Røde Kors, Aarhus two weeks after arriving in Denmark.

“I think being a part of a community – I just moved here from Australia, and don’t know anyone – I think it’s really nice to get involved in an organization,” Collins said.
