Preparations are in full swing with Aarhus University set to throw its annual start-of-year celebration. Danmarks Største Fredagsbar og Idrætsdag, “Denmark’s biggest Friday bar and sports day,” will see about 15,000 participants descend on Aarhus University park September 8 for a day of games and partying.
The day will begin at 9 a.m. with conventional sports including football, volleyball and basketball, said Victor Kelsen, the project’s leader. “Later in the day we will have some less sport-like activities,” he said, including beer pong and beer bowling, games he called “quite popular both to participate in and to watch.”
Nine musical acts, including Johnson and Icekid will entertain participants beginning at 4 p.m.
Held entirely outside, Kelsen admitted the organizers lack a rain plan should Denmark’s famously dreary weather strike the event. “I guess more beers,” he joked.
As many as 450 volunteers will lend their labour on the day of the event. Jensen, for his part, has preparing since January. “We look forward to seeing everybody,” he said.
