Previously all the education institutes in Aarhus rented housing via the housing websites, making it easier for students to find a place to live. Because of COVID-19 many stopped collaborating with them. Now students have to find a place on their own and therefore run a higher chance of being scammed.

According to Anna Nejrup, international coordinator at DMJX, this semester was the first time any of her students have been scammed.
The reason for students choosing an apartment via Facebook instead of legit websites is because they are mostly located close to the city center. ,,Once the students have settled in Aarhus, they find out that the city parts are quite close to each other. A room via a student housing website is therefore not at all bad when it comes to location.”
It’s hard to stop the scammers, but you can be aware of the signs to look for.
,,always read the contract carefully”, says Anna Nejrup.
